The 5 H's:
People ask me all the time
“Who to hire?"
What salespeople do we hire?
How do we build a team?
While there is a lot of thought about when and at what stage,
There are really only 5 characteristics you'll look for.
Because, in reality, as much as I love sales, it's not an intellectual game; it's an attitude and personality game.
Okay, so what are the 5 Hs?
Hardworking. There's just no way around this. If somebody doesn't put in the effort, sales aren't gonna work. I know that's true everywhere, but sales really is an input game.
Hustle. They have to have a bit of hustle. Good hustle. Not bad hustle. I just mean creativity in how they get things done, and that spark within them that makes you notice them.
Humbleness. This is so critical. We don't want a loud, shouty type. We want somebody who always accepts their good sales with grace and gives others the credit.
Honesty. People buy from people who do what they say. That's how honesty is translated in sales. You say you are going to send a proposal; send the proposal.
Humour. People buy when they laugh, when they find you amusing. I'm still working on that.
And that's it.
If you get someone with those 5 H, don't worry about their experience.
Someone with those 5 will be an absolute great salesperson,
Look for the 5 H's.
Build your sales team, and it's you who'll be laughing.
